Root is the Olson Baalson Associate Professor of Youth and Family Ministry, Luther Seminary. He writes and researches in areas of theology and youth ministry. He co-authored the 2012 Christianity Today Book of Merit award winner, The Theological Turn in Youth Ministry (with Kenda Creasy Dean, InterVarsity, 2011). Other books include The Children of Divorce: The Loss of Family as the Loss of Being (Baker Academic, 2010), Revisiting Relational Youth Ministry: From a Strategy of Influence to a Theology of Incarnation (InterVarsity, 2007), and The Relational Pastor (InterVarsity, 2013).
